Courtney

Turner Job Corps Center

Courtney was looking to take the next step in her career. That’s when she found the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center, where she trained in the Heavy Equipment Operations training area. As she advanced in her training, her skill led her to pursue the Advanced Asphalt Paving program through the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) at the Turner Job Corps Center in Georgia. During her time there, she was even able to travel to other Job Corps centers across the country and use her training to improve centers by working on various paving projects. After graduating from Turner Job Corps, Courtney went to Orlando for the IUOE Local 673 apprenticeship program and became a member of the IUOE, putting her Job Corps skills to use. After 10 years of working in the private sector and becoming a successful heavy equipment mechanic, she received a call from one of her IUOE Job Corps instructors, who told her that there was a position available for her to come back and teach her training at the center. Fast-forward 11 years, and Courtney is changing lives every day at Job Corps. She tells incoming students, “Job Corps is what you make of it. So, remember what your goals are.”
