Are you interested in construction and enjoy taking initiative? Do you enjoy troubleshooting problems and are a strong communicator? Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Advanced Electrical Service Technician, Pre-Apprentice training program. Pre-apprenticeships are focused on preparing students for a successful experience in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). That means your hands-on training will be based on industry standards in order to prepare you for high-skill, quality employment.

On the job, you will:

  • Install, repair and replace residential circuits and determine general wiring requirements
  • Decide on and install the proper anchors, fasteners and adhesives
  • Work with others to coordinate system repairs

The credentials you'll earn:

In the Advanced Electrical Service Technician, Pre-Apprentice program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials, from such organizations as the Homebuilder Institute (HBI), upon completion of the program. You will also complete and earn certificates for the following:

  • 30-hour OSHA training course in Construction Safety and Health
Students should also earn a state-issued learner's permit and driver's license upon completion of the program.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
  • Complete a Job Corps' basic Electrical or Facilities Maintenance training program
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
  • At least 17 years old

  • Positive attendance and progress record
  • Written recommendation from Job Corps center personnel
  • Health clearance at current center
  • Strong work ethic and determination to succeed
  • Complete a successful in-person or phone interview

Eric Possemato

Eric Possemato is a Home Builders Institute (HBI) instructor for the Advanced Electrical Service Technician training area and has served as an HBI instructor for 15 years. He also brings 12 years of professional experience in the electrical field working on commercial and residential projects. Eric earned his bachelor’s degree at SUNY Delhi and holds multiple certifications in the field, including electrical construction, OSHA 500-hour instructor, national green building standard and more.

Tom Phelps

Tom Phelps has worked with HBI and Clearfield Job Corps for two years as an Advanced Electrical Service Technician, Pre-Apprentice instructor. He previously worked as a commercial and residential electrician, project coordinator, and electrical purchasing agent and distributor. Tom enjoys teaching and working with students in becoming electricians in the construction industry.
