Are you interested in construction and enjoy being independent? Have strong attention to detail and like working with your hands? Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Advanced Electrical – Underground Residential Distribution Technician training program.

On the job, you will:

  • Install and repair electrical power systems and telecommunications cables, including fiber optics
  • Identify defective devices and regulators, and inspect and test power lines and other equipment
  • Lay cables directly in trenches, and pull cables through underground conduits
  • Drive work vehicles to job sites
  • Follow safety standards and procedures

The credentials you'll earn:

This is the second level of Advanced Training offered in the Advanced Electrical series. In the Advanced Electrical training program, you will earn nationally recognized credentials from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Students should also earn a state-issued learner's permit and driver's license upon completion of the program.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
  • Complete a Job Corps basic Electrical or Facilities Maintenance training program
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
  • At least 17 years old

  • Have a positive attendance and progress record
  • Have a written recommendation from Job Corps center personnel
  • Have a health clearance at current center
  • Have a strong work ethic and determination to succeed
  • Complete an in-person or phone interview
