Are you interested in hands-on, fast-paced environments? Have strong attention to detail and work well with machinery?  Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Advanced HVAC, Preventive Maintenance Technician program. Pre-apprenticeships are focused on preparing students for a successful experience in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). That means your hands-on training will be based on industry standards in order to prepare you for high-skill, quality employment. 

On the job, you will:

  • Install, clean and maintain HVAC units and check for proper heating and cooling processes
  •  Identify and perform maintenance on HVAC units, including safety, brazing, recovery, dehydration and charging
  •  Work with residential and commercial control systems, including units with single- and three-phase electrical motors

The credentials you'll earn:

In the Advanced HVAC, Preventive Maintenance Technician program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials from such organizations as:

  • National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) –Residential Construction Academy
  • Energy Services Company (ESCO)
  • North American Technician Excellence (NATE)
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
  • Complete a Job Corps basic training program
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
  • At least 17 years old

  • Positive attendance and progress record
  • Written recommendation from Job Corps center personnel
  • Health clearance at current center
  • Strong work ethic and determination to succeed
