Are you interested in measuring the exact amount of sugar and spice, and enjoy creating sweet treats for friends and family? Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Advanced Pastry Culinarian.

On the job, you will:

  • Be responsible for maintaining a clean workspace and ensuring the freshness and viability of ingredients
  • Use basic baking math to measure and combine ingredients
  • Knead, roll, cut and shape dough
  • Set oven temperatures and monitor the baking process of pastries

The credentials you'll earn:

This is the final level of Advanced Training offered in the Advanced Culinary Arts series. In the Advanced Pastry Culinarian program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials, such as Certified Pastry Chef, Certified Baker or Certified Restaurant Professional. Students should also earn a state-issued driver’s license upon completion of the program.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
  • Complete a Job Corps basic training program
  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
  • At least 17 years old

  • Positive attendance and progress record
  • Written recommendation from Job Corps center personnel
  • Health clearance at current center
  • Strong work ethic and determination to succeed
