Are you interested in measuring the exact amount of sugar and spice, and enjoy creating sweet treats for friends and family? Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Advanced Pastry Culinarian.

On the job, you will:

Be responsible for maintaining a clean workspace and ensuring the freshness and viability of ingredients
Use basic baking math to measure and combine ingredients
Knead, roll, cut and shape dough
Set oven temperatures and monitor the baking process of pastries

The credentials you'll earn:

This is the final level of Advanced Training offered in the Advanced Culinary Arts series. In the Advanced Pastry Culinarian program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials, such as Certified Pastry Chef, Certified Baker or Certified Restaurant Professional. Students should also earn a state-issued driver’s license upon completion of the program.

Some of the career options you'll have:

Individuals with their Advanced Pastry Culinarian credentials often go on to work in the food service industry, often for restaurants, catering service and bakeries or for institutions such as schools and hotels.

Requirements:

High school diploma or the equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
Complete a Job Corps basic training program
Passing scores on all written and performance tests
Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
At least 17 years old

Positive attendance and progress record
Written recommendation from Job Corps center personnel
Health clearance at current center
Strong work ethic and determination to succeed
